Digital Economy Bill Unconference and Workshops

I’m excited to announce that the Open Rights Group, in association with the GIST foundation, is hosting a free unconference and workshop on the Digital Economy Bill in Sheffield this month:

The Digital Economy Bill will affect you:

If your home Internet-connection contract is in your name.
If your business offers Internet access to the public (wifi hotspots or terminals.)
If you depend on copyright for your income (software writers, publishers, authors, bloggers, photographers, musicians, film-makers, artists, DJs, newspapers, radio stations etc.)

Come to the unconference and find out more about the legislation and how it will impact your home life, your business and your community. Stick around for the workshops and learn how you can make sure your opinions on these issues heard in Westminster.

Tickets are available separately for any of the following parts of the event. You can come to one of the workshops even if you can’t make it to the unconference.

* Workshop places are limited, so booking is essential.

There will be breaks between sessions and time to socialise before, during and after the event.

For those who can’t get to Sheffield, workshops are also taking place in London, Manchester and Edinburgh, though these events will not be preceded by unconferences.

Theme updates

I’m in the middle of updating Richard’s Kingdom to show content from the various places I frequent on the web. Please bear with me while I iron out a few bugs. I know the current theme doesn’t display the title correctly in Firefox, for example. Fixed: Thanks Ian!

Changes, upgrades and new features

Changes are afoot at Richard’s Kingdom. I’ve made a few behind the scenes improvements and added a whole load of new functionality. There’s now some shiny stuff in the sidebars (use the new “skip past content” link above to go there now) and I’ve added a couple of really useful site features too.

- Sidebar widgets for my photos, bookmarks, playlists & claimID page

Upgrades
- Wordpress to v2.3.1
- Scott Wallick’s fantastic Simplr theme to v4.0
- wp-db-backup (a backend database backup plugin) to v2.1.5
Changes
- Revised and simplified my categories to focus on this blog’s key topics
- Routed RSS feeds through Feedburner
- New sidebar layou
Bug fixes
- Fixed the archive page
- Fixed the search function

There are still a few things I want to do. These should appear over the next few days:

Upgrade and fix the bsuite stats plugin
Write a privacy policy
Anonymise the statistics collection
Make the webserver logs erase themselves after some (short) period
~~Fix the creative commons license plugin~~ [DONE] (turns out it was just an Internet Exploder fault – Firefox FTW!)
Install a “related posts” plugin to take advantage of the new tags
Add a feedburner counter
